Neither ellaOne nor Levonelle is meant to be used as a regular contraceptive method. So it is best to use normal contraceptive pills to ensure the best protection against pregnancy. You can disrupt your normal cycle if you use emergency contraceptive pills more than once during a single menstrual cycle.

The general belief among experts is that when the next period comes without any noticeable delay, a woman can have peace of mind knowing that the emergency contraceptive pill she had taken last time worked. You should take a pregnancy test if you do not get your period within three weeks of taking emergency contraception. Emergency contraception will not work if you're already pregnant.
